Juneteenth

Juneteenth (short for “June Nineteenth”) has historically been celebrated as the day U.S. federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to ensure that enslaved people there would be freed. In 1980, Texas became the first state to recognize Juneteenth as a holiday. Starting this year (2021), it has become a U.S. federal holiday as Juneteenth National Independence Day.
