Book Blasters Reading Challenge

We’re excited to partner with Decades for a Book-It inspired winter reading program!

🚀 Launch into nostalgia with this program for adults looking to power up their reading in 2026.

👾 Adults who read five books before February 28 will earn a collectible button and a $10 gift card to Decades, good for food, beverages, and games!

Participation is simple. Patrons, ages 18+, are invited to pick up a Book Blasters book tracker bookmark at either Lancaster Public Library location (Lancaster City or Mountville). For every book you read, you get a punch on your book tracker bookmark. Once the card is complete/fully punched, turn it in in exchange for a nifty Book-It inspired button and a $10 gift card to Decades.

⌛️ Saturday, February 28 is the last day to turn in a completed Book Blasters book tracker bookmark.

FAQs

No, but registering for a library card is super easy and FREE!

And, since you’ll already be at the library to pick up your book tracker, who are we to stop you from also registering for a library card?

Learn more here!

No! The books you read do not have to come from the library.

This is a great opportunity to read books you already own but haven’t gotten around to reading yet!

A book you started in 2025 can count towards your total.

We’re trying to challenge you, not stress you out!

Yes! E-books read via the Libby or Hoopla apps* or on an e-reader count towards your total.

While we’re at it, audiobooks and graphic novels count, too!

*Contact us ASAP if you’re scratching your head and wondering “What’s a Libby or Hoopla app?”!

That’s 100% up to you.

We are happy to punch your card as you go or in one fell swoop at the end.

Speaking of the end, we will collect your book tracker bookmark once you complete the challenge, so don’t get too attached!

Sure thing!

We think that just makes sense, especially if you live outside Lancaster City and want to time it so you pick up your gift card on your way to Decades*.

*Besties, Decades is a six-minute walk away from the Lancaster City Branch.

Yes, there is a limit of ONE Winter Reading Challenge prize/person.

We love how much you love this challenge, and we won’t get in the way of you reading more than five books this winter, but it’s one $10 Decades gift card and retro button/person.

We’d really rather you didn’t.

Life is busy and we all need help checking things off our to-do lists, but can you blame us for wanting to celebrate you and your reading accomplishment live and in person? 👏👏👏 Plus, it will help us stay organized if we all follow this rule.

We don’t want to put too fine a point on it, but the simple act of entering the library shows us (and the community at large!) that you support the work we do to provide free access to invaluable resources, educational programs, and safe spaces for people to gather.Â
