The Lancaster City Branch suffered significant flood damage over the weekend due to a backup in the main sewer line for the parking garage. We have been working all week with flood restoration experts to clean up and determine our next steps. We need to replace all first-floor flooring, built-in cabinetry, and a majority of the shelving and display units. And this is just what we know at present. Until the flooring and shelving are removed, we may not know the true extent of the damage. After all, approximately 5,000 gallons of water flowed through the library’s first floor!
We understand the inconvenience caused to our patrons and we are working diligently to restore our library to a safe condition as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, we must remain closed until (at least) Monday, March 10. As always, this timeline may change, but we will continue providing updates when new information becomes available.
We are working hard behind the scenes to continue providing programs and services while the building is closed. For example, we have relocated a couple of upcoming programs:
-
- Baby Storytime will take place at the Mountville Branch on Tuesday, March 4 at 1PM.
-
- The Quiet Corner Release Party at Our Town Brewery scheduled for tomorrow night (2/27) is 100% still on. Celebrate the release of Quiet Corner with us and help make the most of a crappy situation 🍻😉
While the building is closed, no late fines will be assessed for overdue items, and all holds have been extended to March 15. Patrons can return materials to the library’s three exterior book drops, located near the library’s front door and on N. Christian Street, behind the library. Our digital library is always open at LancasterPublicLibrary.org, and the Mountville Branch is open as usual.
We are very grateful for the wonderful messages of support we have received from the Lancaster community. Reopening the library is our priority, and we can’t wait to welcome you back into the building.
