Lancaster County Library Referendum
On November 3, 2026, registered voters in Lancaster County will be asked whether or not they support a countywide Library Tax. The question will be posed:
“Shall the County of Lancaster establish a dedicated Library tax to provide for the maintenance of, and aid to, public Libraries in Lancaster County at the rate of .55 mills on the dollar on all taxable real estate within the County of Lancaster?”
If County residents approve the referendum, the estimated property tax impact would be 55¢ annually per $1,000 in assessed property value, which for the median $329,000 home in Lancaster County is about $181 per year.
To calculate how much this tax will cost you, take your property’s assessed value (not the market value), multiply it by 0.55, and then divide by 1,000. For example, if your property is assessed at $350,000, the formula would be:
350,000 x 0.55 / 1,000 = 192.50 [your assessed value] x 0.55 / 1,000 = your tax payment
