Thank you for your support as our service model continues to evolve. We are beyond grateful for the community’s patience and understanding over the last few weeks.

Last month, the Lancaster City Branch experienced significant flooding on the building’s first floor. Because restoration efforts are still underway, the library will remain closed until (at least) March 17. We are taking all necessary measures to ensure a safe reopening of the building as soon as possible.

To minimize the negative impact of this incident on our patrons, beginning Monday, March 10, we will provide limited library services from the LPL outreach van, parked outside the library in Ewell Plaza.

What You Can Do in Ewell Plaza

  • BROWSE and BORROW from the carefully curated collections on display, featuring popular titles for both adults and children, as well as DVDs, board games, and yard games!
  • REQUEST Grab Bags and PICK UP held items in person at the library’s entrance.
  • USE a public computer or ACCESS digital services like Libby, Hoopla, and other online resources.
  • RENEW your items, REGISTER for a new library card, ASK reference questions by emailing askus@lancasterpubliclibrary.org.

🛂 The Passport Processing Office will continue operating out of the Mountville Branch. The office will be open March 11-13. To schedule your appointment, please call 717-394-2651, ext. 2260, email kleader@lancasterpubliclibrary.org, or visit our online passport appointment calendar.

🗺 Until we can return to in-person programming, a majority of upcoming programs have been relocated to the Mountville Branch or to the LNP offices at 101 N. Queen Street.

We are working hard behind the scenes to continue providing programs and services while the building is closed. As an example, we have relocated a selection of upcoming programs:
    • Baby Storytime will take place at the Mountville Branch on Tuesday, March 4 at 1PM.
    • History Book Club will take place at the LNP offices, located at 101 N. Queen Street, on Wednesday, March 5 at 1PM.
    • Wednesday Night Book Club will take place at the LNP offices, located at 101 N. Queen Street, on Wednesday, March 5 at 6:30PM.
    • Anime After School! will take place at the LNP offices, located at 101 N. Queen Street, on Thursday, March 6 at 4PM.

Beginning March 3, you may pick up your hold item(s) at the Lancaster City Branch entrance. Patrons will not be allowed inside the building, but a staff member will come to the door to assist you. Please be ready with your name and library card. Pickup Hours: Monday-Friday between 9AM-6PM Please note: Front door pickup is only available for library items waiting on the hold shelf. Not sure if this means you? Click here to view your account.

🛂 Beginning this week, the Passport Processing Office will operate out of the Mountville Branch. Once we are able to reschedule last week’s appointments, we will update the passport appointment calendar.
The Lancaster City Branch suffered significant flood damage over the weekend due to a backup in the main sewer line for the parking garage. We have been working all week with flood restoration experts to clean up and determine our next steps. We need to replace all first-floor flooring, built-in cabinetry, and a majority of the shelving and display units. And this is just what we know at present. Until the flooring and shelving are removed, we may not know the true extent of the damage. After all, approximately 5,000 gallons of water flowed through the library’s first floor! We understand the inconvenience caused to our patrons and we are working diligently to restore our library to a safe condition as soon as possible. Unfortunately, we must remain closed until (at least) Monday, March 10. As always, this timeline may change, but we will continue providing updates when new information becomes available. We are working hard behind the scenes to continue providing programs and services while the building is closed. For example, we have relocated a couple of upcoming programs:
    • Baby Storytime will take place at the Mountville Branch on Tuesday, March 4 at 1PM.
    • The Quiet Corner Release Party at Our Town Brewery scheduled for tomorrow night (2/27) is 100% still on. Celebrate the release of Quiet Corner with us and help make the most of a crappy situation 🍻😉
While the building is closed, no late fines will be assessed for overdue items, and all holds have been extended to March 15. Patrons can return materials to the library’s three exterior book drops, located near the library’s front door and on N. Christian Street, behind the library. Our digital library is always open at LancasterPublicLibrary.org, and the Mountville Branch is open as usual. We are very grateful for the wonderful messages of support we have received from the Lancaster community. Reopening the library is our priority, and we can’t wait to welcome you back into the building.
Yesterday, the Lancaster Public Library – Lancaster City Branch experienced unexpected and considerable flooding on the building’s first floor. The flood was caused by a backup in a sewer pipe; luckily, there was no damage to the print collections. However, after consulting with partners on remediation and restoration efforts, the building will be closed for all public interactions, through (at least) Saturday, March 1. Plans are underway to restore limited library services as soon as possible. While the building is closed, no late fines will be assessed for overdue items. Patrons can return materials to the library’s three exterior book drops. One book drop is located near the library’s front door, and two book drops are located on N. Christian Street, behind the library. The Lancaster Public Library – Mountville Branch is open as usual. The Mountville Branch is open Monday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. We will be updating the following when new information becomes available:
