Why Support Lancaster Public Library?

The Lancaster Public Library self generates over 60% of its operating budget in order to serve the over 300,000 children, teens, adults, and seniors who visit the library each year.

The Lancaster Public Library receives 37% of its operating budget from state and local funding. These dollars are voluntary contributions and are subject to change without notice.

You help to support the 13% of our operating budget raised by the Friends of Lancaster Public Library when you attend one of their book sales, shop at the Juliana Bookstore or the Marshall Street Bookstore, or attend one of their many other wonderful fundraising events.

The Lancaster Public Library is prohibited from charging for basic library services. However, the library is able to generate 20% of its operating budget by offering passport services, collecting overdue fines, charging for parking, and on fees for DVD and new book rentals.

Lastly and most importantly, the Lancaster Public Library would not be able to carry out its important community mission without the generosity of a supportive community. Through fundraising events, grants, private foundation funds, corporate sponsorships, and donations from our patrons and supporters we are able to generate the remaining 30% of funds needed to continue to offer the Lancaster community free, public library services.
