Passport Renewals
If you were 16 years of age or older when you got your passport and it hasn’t been expired for more than 5 years, you can renew it on your own using a DS82 Passport by Mail form (travel.state.gov). Fill out the form, sign it, and mail it in with your old passport, a new passport photo, and a check for $130 (Routine Service) or $190 (Expedited Service). The address where you are to send it is on the application form.
If under 16 years of age when you got the passport and/or it’s been expired for more than 5 years, you will need to make an appointment to come in and apply for a new passport. In this case you’ll need to complete DS11 application forms.
