February 9, 2024 — As good stewards of Lancaster Public Library’s resources, we recently underwent a review of the return on investment for the vendor services we provide to the community. During this process, we found one service that, unfortunately, showed low community usage compared to the costs. After careful consideration, we have decided to discontinue access to Kanopy streaming services.
Effective March 1, 2024, we will no longer be offering free access to video streaming platform Kanopy. Instead, the Lancaster Public Library will allocate more resources to Hoopla Digital.
Dedicating more resources to Hoopla will help meet our community’s growing demand for books, movies, and music in digital streaming formats. Anyone with a Lancaster Public Library card can enjoy popular books, movies, music albums, and more without worrying about late fees or going through a waiting period.
We will continue to examine new film streaming services, similar to Kanopy, in the hope of finding a more cost-effective model. In the meantime, please visit the library where you can borrow from our large collection of DVDs. Remember that if there is a title you can’t find in our catalog, you can always recommend it through our Purchase Suggestion service.
If you want to capture what you have watched on Kanopy, you can view and print your history by clicking on your name in the upper right corner of their website and selecting “Viewing History.”
