Library Services and COVID-19

We have instituted changes to the way we are currently delivering library services.

BOOK DROPS
The external book drops at the Lancaster City & Mountville Branches are open. For quarantine purposes, the indoor book drops are closed. Please use the outside book drops for all returns. If you or anyone in your household is experiencing symptoms of illness, please wait until you’re feeling better to return your items. To guard against possible exposure, all returned materials will be quarantined for seven (7) days before they are processed for circulation. Therefore, items may appear as “checked out” on your library account for more than a week after you return them. Please do not renew returned materials. When the materials are checked in they will reflect your actual return date.

DUE DATES
The library’s extension on due dates has expired. Patrons will receive a due date notice (as was the practice prior to the closures), but you can also check due dates online via “My Account”. If you need additional assistance, please call your local library.

GRAB BAGS
Are you looking for something new to read? With your input, our well read library staff will select an assortment of titles for you. Simply fill out the form, and we will handpick a Grab Bag of titles from our shelves especially for you. We will notify you via email when the bag is ready & waiting for you on the Hold Shelf.

HOLDS
Patrons can visit the online catalog and log into “My Account” to search for and place holds on items at other public libraries in Lancaster County. Items may take longer than usual to arrive and, in some cases, may not be available.

LIBRARY CARD EXPIRATION DATES
To renew your expired library card, visit your local library with identification/proof of address.

LIMITED LOBBY SERVICES
The Lancaster City and Mountville Branches are open for Limited Lobby Services only. In addition to Curbside Pickup, printer, copier, and fax services are available. We will provide reference assistance as able and ILL will continue as normal. Public computers are not available at this time. Building access is limited to areas for holds pickup and checkout using self-check machines. In order to maintain social distancing, three patrons (or one family) will be allowed inside at a time. Therefore, patrons may have to wait in line outside until it is their turn to enter.

RETURNS
All returned materials are quarantined for seven (7) days before they are processed for circulation. Therefore, items may appear as checked out on your library account for more than a week after you return them. Please do not renew returned materials. When the materials are checked in they will reflect your actual return date.

TEMPORARY LIBRARY CARDS
Lancaster County residents can apply for a temporary library card HERE. Use your temporary library card to borrow eBooks and to access our online resources. You can also place holds on physical library items with your temporary library card. To pickup your held items, you must visit or contact your local library to upgrade your temporary library card to a full access library card. Your temporary library card is valid for 3 months.
