Library Services and COVID-19

We have instituted changes to the way we are delivering library services.

The external book drops at the Lancaster City & Mountville Branches are open! For quarantine purposes, the indoor book drops are closed. Please use the outside book drops for all returns. If you or anyone in your household is experiencing symptoms of illness, please wait until you’re feeling better to return your items. To guard against possible exposure, all returned materials will be quarantined for four (4) days before they are processed for circulation. Therefore, items may appear as “checked out” on your library account for up to a week after you return them.

*The Leola Branch book drop will not reopen at this time.

The library’s extension on due dates has expired. Library materials checked out pre-closure will be due on a rolling basis before the end of July. Patrons will receive a due date notice (as was the practice prior to the closures), but you can also check due dates online via “My Account”. If you need additional assistance, please call your local library.

The Lancaster City and Mountville Branches are open for express visits. You may enter the building to pick out your own books, DVDs, and CDs, as well as use the public computers or print & make copies.

GRAB BAGS – Available at the Lancaster City Branch
Are you looking for something new to read? With your input, our well read library staff will select an assortment of titles for you. Simply fill out the form, and we will handpick a Grab Bag of titles from our shelves especially for you. We will notify you via email when the bag is ready & waiting for you on the Hold Shelf at the Lancaster City Branch.

Patrons can once again visit the online catalog and log into “My Account” to search for items and place holds. Items may take longer than usual to arrive and, in some cases, may not be available.

We have pushed expiration dates to September 1. If your library card is expired, please email us to request an extension.

Yes, it looks different than in years past, but our goal remains the same – to keep children and teens reading all summer long!

The health and safety of our patrons, staff, and volunteers is a top priority for Lancaster Public Library. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we work together to ensure the health of our community 💙
